What is hypnosis? How does it work?
Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness,
an increased state of awareness. The state of hypnosis has
been likened to the state just before you go off to sleep
at night, when you are ‘between worlds'. In hypnosis however,
although the physical body is very deeply relaxed, the unconscious
mind is wide awake and fully alert.
It is a state that is different from both the normal, waking
state, and from any stages of sleep, and yet it is a naturally
occurring state that we slip in and out of several times during
the day. For example, when we are engrossed in a book or film,
and are not immediately aware of the phone ringing or someone
calling our name.
When the hypnotic state is accessed, either self-induced, or
with guidance, the unconscious mind becomes more alert and focussed,
and thus receptive to positive suggestions and ideas. In the
hypnotic state is possible to: recall previously forgotten events;
re-live past experiences that have resulted in trauma and to
heal them; re-programme oneself to change bad habits or negative
perceptions ie give up smoking or stick to a healthy eating plan,
or to increase confidence.
Hypnosis is a safe, effective self-help tool that is dependency
free, side-effect free and drug free! It allows you to regain
focus and control over your life.
It empowers you to make the changes you desire. Hypnosis is
an active therapy requiring commitment and practice by the
client, to achieve his or her goals. It is not a passive therapy
that is done for you, nor is it a ‘cure all'. If only it really
was that easy! Like anything worthwhile in life, you get out
what you put in.
